Lime Chang teaches children art, which involves using black markers and waste paper to be creative. It’s simple, yet there are unlimited possibilities. You could recycle that piece of waste paper, or just get rid of it, but how about drawing on it?
Growing up, I actually lacked confidence in my drawings because I couldn’t draw according to the standards everyone has when it comes to ‘realism.’ Nevertheless, I became an ‘art teacher.’ During class, I like to encourage the kids by telling them, “there are no correct answers or mistakes in drawing; drawing is just right!” Then it got me thinking, “I ought to walk the talk!” So, I gave myself a challenge: draw every single day, for one hundred days. I’ve stuck to that until this very day.
I have many sources of inspiration. Sometimes it’s something interesting that has happened in my life, or an object I spot and really resonate with. It could also be something intriguing online that I transform into a piece of my own. I also find inspiration in what I studied at university – sociology. Usually, those pieces revolve around sharing a particular concept, such as ‘social stigma,’ ‘power relations,’ ‘gender,’ etc.

Illustrating is my way to record 20s. A time when we are young, carefree and aggressive. Just like keeping diary, I will know how much I grow when I read them. And these memories, will be the best stories for me.

A talented and unconventional person who walks around in
depression and derives paintings from chaotic thoughts leads to two different
styles of painting.
The colorful paintings are derived from the belief that each
color has its own emotions, and that we are truly living in the world.
Another style is based on the theme of “Madness,
Loved”, according to different story chapters, depicting the female
emotions of a certain node.

Hi! I am Sophia who is an illustrator currently working in
Taiwan. An international client base has brought the importance of social media
to the fore. Ornamentations, playful composition, and vivid colour palettes are
my primary inspirations. Especially colour palettes are key. Both vivid and
limited in range, they convey the distinctive and playful style with which I
address contemporary subjects.
Narratives are developed through repetitive patterns and
ornamentation. Sometimes the imaginary scenes that arise are inhabited by small
groups of individuals, sometimes recognisable as an iconic band.
Although the audience
is generally assumed to be adult, my illustrations can generate the spirit of
childish mirth and simple pleasures. For example, humour is a prominent trait
of the creatures and anthropomorphic characters through which I am currently
visualising the growing dream world of Sophialand.
Also, my outputs often reflect the formats of Instagram,
exhibiting square, tiled and sequential imagery.
